Mark Gens is a multimedia artist and arts educator whose practice encompasses collage, installation, video art, e-literature, sculpture, and critical writing. He earned his BFA from Otis College of Art (2014) in Los Angeles, California, and his MFA from Pratt Institute (2016) in Brooklyn, New York, where he continues to live and work.

Mark’s artwork draws from his lived experience within the turbulent socio-political landscape of recent decades. Influenced by the complexities of navigating a highly normative world as a queer person, he explores the inherent power of creative and cultural production as a catalyst for personal inquiry and political action.

Parallel to his studio practice, Mark has extensive experience in community engagement and arts administration. His professional background includes facilitating community-building initiatives with youth, preparing and presenting LGBTQ-focused materials and events at the UCLA Film & Television Archive, implementing art education workshops for incarcerated individuals, and curating exhibitions. He currently serves as the Assistant Chair of the Fine Arts Department at Pratt Institute.
